The attraction for working in a small format such as jewellery I think may have begun in my childhood, with a fascination with the small scale of dolls’ houses, dolls and their tiny accessories. It was perhaps a natural progression to move from making doll’s clothes into working in the jewellery medium with its [often demanding and patience – testing] intricate and intimate scale.

Finding my own style and medium of working creatively came as a bit of a revelation. Only through many years of hoarding and collecting small items from the environment, from other peoples discards, did there come a realisation in time that I was utilising a selection process with these interesting small treasures to rearrange and assemble them into a new personal form of jewellery, small objects and framed pieces.

Presently I am very much enjoying a different collection format. Through the technology available today I am collecting through cyberspace rather than a physical gathering process [at least initially]. Both methods have their attractions and similarities. The discovery of the myriad of beads all over the world with all their different types, colours shapes and sizes currently has me totally involved in sourcing, sorting, selecting and combining. The resulting pieces of jewellery I hope will impart to the wearer and viewer a sense of the exploration and creative input.
